Our Top Dressing Services are Top Notch

Top Dressing Considerations

Top Dressing means to spread a layer of sand or sand plus organic material over the turf surface. The material is then dragged to evenly distribute it across the field. This prolongs the effects or aeration by preventing hole closures. Top dressing evens the surface of the field and helps prevent thatch buildup by providing a better environment for microorganisms.

Champion Top Dressing

Champion Top Dressing was designed for the Ultra Dwarf variant of grass. While it does not meet U.S.G.A specs due to the cutting depths being as short as 0.120 in height. The largest sand particle has to be removed to decrease damage to reel mower blades and bed knives. The use of Champion Top Dressing does decrease perc rate but with best practice can be alleviated. One way is by aerification and using Regular top Dressing. The benefit of these practices are to increase golf ball speed.

Regular Top Dressing

Our Regular Top Dressing meets U.S.G.A. specifications. Top dressing used in conjunctions with aerafication changes the soil texture allowing the water, air and nutrients to reach the roots faster. This in turn allows more uptake into the grass. Grasses become more hardy and wear resistant with top dressing.
Top dressing smooths the ground surface and prevents theatch buildup which provide a better environment for micro-organisms. Top dressing also provides a more favorable environment for seed germination.

Root Zone Mix

root zone mix

By mixing regular top dressing and peat moss makes for an excellent growing media for grasses. Using high quality seed sedge peats, our root zone mixes maintain a neutral PH level and also promote microbial activity. Peat moss increases water retention and nutrient holding capacity. This decreases the amount of irrigation and fertilizer consumption by the plants.

Why you should Top Dress?

It creates a smooth playing surface. A smooth playing surface is critical for player performance and safety. That same smooth surface also serves as an uninterrupted slope for drainage.
Modifies the thatch layer that accumulates on low use areas of the field.
Changes the soil texture. If the soil of your field is unsuitable, gradual top dressing will slowly incorporate more favorable material and improve soil conditions over time.
Can change the surface characteristics and provide a more resilient surface for play.
Will provide a more favorable environment for germination. When grass is lost to activities on the field, the field must be over seeded. Top dressing provides a more favorable environment for germination.
